Our Story
Where the Past Dances with the Present
In the heart of Orland Park’s Old Orland Historic distric, Layali Orland stands on a foundation rich with story and spirit — the very place where the town itself took shape.
More than a century ago, what is now 143rd Place was known as Middle Street — a dirt road lined with wooden storefronts, hitching posts, and the hum of small-town life. On this street corner stood the Kruspe Saloon and Dance Hall, a lively venue where townspeople came together for music, gatherings, and community celebration.
By the 1930s, Orland Park was transforming. The original frame structures were replaced with brick buildings that symbolized progress and permanence. A historic photograph from that era shows firemen proudly posing in front of a fire truck and a blacksmith shop — likely the same building that still stands today.
Over the decades, this space served many purposes — a dance hall, market, a workshop, antique store, local storefront — yet through every era, one theme remained: people gathering under one roof to connect, create, and celebrate.
A Story Rediscovered
The story of Layali Orland was not simply inherited — it was rediscovered.
Through meticulous research, cross-referencing historic archives, photographs, village maps, and early planning records, we traced the lineage of this building from its origins as the Kruspe Dance Hall to the brick structure that endures today. Each piece of history helped reveal a continuous thread of community woven through this space for nearly 150 years.
Once again, the building opens its doors as a modern dance hall and cultural gathering place, where art, music, and celebration come alive beneath the same sky that watched over Orland Park’s earliest festivities.
What began as a humble wooden dance hall in the 1800s now stands as a reimagined space for connection — a tribute to the past, and a celebration of what it means to come together in the present.
